The Ferrum College Teacher Education Program prepares caring and competent pre-professionals as decision-makers for the diverse contexts of 21st-century classrooms, schools and communities. Building upon a solid liberal arts foundation, the Bachelor of Science in Middle Education program assists candidates to develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to become effective and caring teachers in grades 6-8. This major requires a minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA and a minimum 3.0 GPA in education courses.
Any student wishing to prepare for a career teaching middle grades 6-8 may do so by selecting the Middle Education program with an emphasis in one of the following areas:
- Mathematics
- Science
- English
- History and Social Sciences
The Experiential Component (requirement of the major) will be met by successfully completing the following:
