MTH 324 - Elements of Geometry and Number TheoryCredit Hour(s): 3 This course presents topics from Euclidean geometry and number theory. Non-Euclidean geometries (hyperbolic, elliptic) are studied along with the history of the parallel postulate. The axiomatic method is used in this course. Topics from Euclidean geometry include the theorems on transversals, the four centers of a triangle, Pythagoras Theorem and results on arcs, cords, secants and tangents to a circle. Topics from number theory include divisibility, prime numbers, Euclid’s algorithm and the fundamental theorem of arithmetic. 3 Credit(s).
This course is designated Writing Intensive; a grade of “C” or higher in this course is required for this course to count toward the six-credit-hour Writing Intensive graduation requirement for Ferrum College. A student cannot earn a grade of “C” or higher in this course unless he or she earns a “C” or better on the writing assignments required by the course.
