The Theatre Arts program has a strong academic emphasis with students gaining experience to reinforce the coursework through productions, large and small. The degree program in Theatre Arts emphasizes process drama, the value of improvisation, and ensemble. Echoing the College motto, it also asks students to consider how practicing theatre arts serves “not self, but others.” In the liberal arts setting, the program prepares students to pursue a wide variety of careers. Students with the B.A. receive broad exposure to the various disciplines within theatre and are encouraged by the faculty to pursue their special interests.
The B.F.A. is chosen by students wishing to pursue professional performing or technical theatre careers. It stresses intensive course and performance work in the area of emphasis. Entry into the B.F.A. is by audition only. Students wishing to graduate within four years must audition and be accepted into the B.F.A by their 2nd semester freshman year. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA within the Theatre Department to remain in the B.F.A. Program. There are three emphasis areas: Acting, Musical Theatre, and Technical Theatre.
*Students wishing to pursue the B.F.A track must audition and interview in their 2nd year for admission into the program. Please see the Theatre Arts Program Coordinator for more information.
Note: Students majoring in Theatre may not minor in Theatre.
