Professional Studies for Licensure Certificate [21 Credits]

Return to: Programs by Degree
This certificate is only available to teachers who hold a Bachelor’s degree and provisional licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This certificate does not convey teacher licensure; it has been created to provide coursework typically required for provisionally licensed teachers to achieve licensure within their specified timeframe and to certify completion of those courses. Undergraduate students should select from one of the major programs that are accredited to provide teacher licensure if they wish to become fully licensed teachers upon completion of their Bachelor’s degree.
The sponsoring school division (and not Ferrum College) will certify the supervised teaching experience required for licensure. One year of successful full-time teaching experience in the endorsement area in a public or an accredited nonpublic school may be accepted in lieu of the supervised teaching experience. A fully licensed, experienced teacher shall be available in the school building to assist a beginning teacher employed through the alternate route.
