Computer Science

The purpose of the Computer Science major is to teach students the skills needed to understand, design, implement, test, and deploy computer systems and software systems which help to solve business problems or provide them with the knowledge required to pursue advanced graduate studies. In order to do so, the Computer Science curriculum starts with fundamental computer science core courses to develop students’ essential computing concepts and capabilities in problem-solving, algorithms, computer architectures, operating systems, networks, and databases. Several programming courses in different programming languages compliment the fundamental courses so that computing theories learned can be implemented with computer and software systems. Computer application courses and business computing systems courses prepare students with the experience needed to integrate their computing skills with the practice of industries and businesses. Students pursue one of four emphases 1) Network, 2) Cybersecurity, 3) Web Design, and 4) Programming, with coursework designed to further teach expertise in each respective field.
