This certificate is designed for learners interested in acquiring basic Spanish language skills that will prepare them to communicate in basic Spanish professionally and as supplementary preparation for many professional elds, such as criminal justice, early childhood education, pre-professional health sciences, and business. This prociency certicate is based on standardized outcomes set by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL, act6.org) and on a recognition of the importance of cultural competency.
The Spanish in the Workplace Certificate requires a minimum of 9-18 credit hours, depending on the level at which the student begins the study of Spanish language. All students enrolled in the certificate program must complete SPA 301 and SPA 302, regardless of initial placement.

SPA 101 – Required courses: SPA 101, 102, 201, 202, 301, 302 SPA 102 – Required courses: SPA 102, 201, 202, 301, 302
SPA 201 – Required courses: SPA 201, 202, 301, 302
SPA 202 – Required courses: SPA 202, 301, 302
*Only students who place at or below SPA 202 are eligible for this certificate. Those that place above SPA 202 are encouraged to complete a Spanish Minor.
*Demonstrated prociency through a placement test may reduce the number of required credits to a minimum of 9. (Note that completion of placement test[s] do not count toward academic credit.)
