History is the study of the interaction of cultural, geographical, political, and economic forces and how they have shaped the world of the past and present. Thus the major in history provides a solid preparation for career and personal endeavor in the contemporary world. The major offers excellent background for students preparing for law school, graduate study, teaching, and public service. Students interested in graduate school are strongly encouraged to complete at least six hours of coursework in a foreign language.

- Choose any 300/400-level history course not used to satisfy the above requirements. HIS 220 may also be used as an exception with the reminder that the student must achieve a total of 30 hours at the 300/400 level.
