PSY 597 - School and Educational Psychology

This course provides students with an overview of the history of educational psychology from the 1970s to today as well as an exploration of the various roles relevant to educational psychology (counselors, psychologists, diagnosticians, interventionists, behavioral analysts, etc.). Students examine the psychology of learning, learning disabilities, and the relationship between mental health diagnosis and educational classification under IDEA disability and ESSA requirements. Common assessments used in schools are introduced and an introduction to brief counseling strategies and consultation skills is provided. (3 credits) 3 Credit(s).
