PSY 560 - Forensic Psychology: Assessment I

 This course, the first of two parts, examines the relationships between psychology and American law through the lens of a scientist and court expert. Specific topics to be addressed in part 1 of this course include psycho-legal concepts within Criminal Law. These include Competency (to proceed to trial, to testify, or to waive Miranda rights), Insanity (mens rea, culpability), Juvenile Law (amenability to treatment and waivers into adult court), Child Protection (best interests, parental rights, etc.), and Sentence Mitigation (risk, recidivism, and death penalty cases). 3 Credit(s).
