PSY 530 - Techniques of Counseling

This course provides an introduction to helping skills in the practice of counseling psychology. An overview of key psychological theories underpinning the practice of counseling is provided and students are provided opportunities to develop basic
communication, rapport building, active listening, treatment goals, interviewing skills, helping skills, termination, and referral. Special consideration is given to ethics, cultural issues, and self-awareness as it applies to counseling. 3 Credit(s).
